The lounge window at just the wrong angle and suddenly you can see everything. Smears. Paw prints. A line of dust on the skirting boards that’s probably been there since winter. Or maybe the lease is up in three weeks, or someone at the office has finally mentioned the front windows.
That’s when people start hunting for a cleaning company in Auckland. We’re Icon Clean, we’ve been at it for ten years, and this is the short guide we wish more people read before they rang anyone. Us included.
A deep clean covers everything a regular visit doesn’t get to: baked-on oven grease, soap scum, grimy grout, and the dust that settles along skirting boards, door frames and window tracks. A regular clean stops things from sliding, but a deep clean gets you back to a proper fresh start.
The kitchen swallows most of the time, fair enough. Bathrooms come next, because Auckland’s damp loves a shower screen.
A regular clean stops grime from building up and keeps your place looking its best. How often you need it really depends on who’s living there. A busy family in Botany will probably want someone through every week, but a couple in a one-bedroom flat in Grey Lynn can usually get by with a monthly clean.
A few practical bits people ask before booking. You don’t need to be home. Plenty of customers leave a spare key or a lockbox code, and that’s fine. You don’t need to supply anything either, because we bring our own equipment and products, and they’re eco-friendly and biodegradable, which helps if you’ve got kids or pets.
Two small things make the visit go further. Clear the benches and floors of clutter beforehand, since cleaners clean surfaces and nobody wants the time going on picking up socks. And heavy furniture doesn’t get shifted on a standard clean, for safety reasons. If you’d like the floor done under the bed or the big dining table, say so when you book and we can customise the job.
There’s more on what’s included on our home cleaning and regular cleaning page
You don’t need to be home, and you don’t need to supply a thing. We bring our own gear and eco-friendly products. Heavy furniture doesn’t get shifted on a standard clean though, so say so when you book.
Move out cleaning, also called end of tenancy or exit cleaning, is a full clean of a rental before you hand back the keys, aimed at passing the final inspection so your bond comes back in full.
Here’s what the law actually asks of you, because there’s a lot of folklore floating around. Section 40 of the Residential Tenancies Act says tenants must leave a rental “reasonably clean and reasonably tidy” and take their rubbish with them. Tenancy Tribunal decisions have described that as a standard of reasonableness. Not a professional clean, and not a perfect one either. That’s the legal floor.
In real life, a property manager walking through with a checklist and a phone camera has a higher bar in their head, and the gap between the two is where most bond arguments start.
Oven, inside windows, carpets and rubbish removal are the usual extras, and they’re what turns a cheap quote into an expensive one. We also do move in cleans if you’d like the new place sorted before the boxes arrive.
If something’s been missed, tell us within 24 hours and the same team comes back at no extra cost. The one catch is that it doesn’t stretch to areas where tradies or movers are still tramping through after we’ve finished.
The full room-by-room list is in our move out cleaning guide, and the end of tenancy cleaning page has the details.
A Commercial Cleaning Service in Auckland That Keeps Your Workplace Looking Sharp
Weekly might be floors edge to edge, skirting boards and glass partitions. Monthly or quarterly is where the bigger jobs live, such as carpets, vents and windows (more on those below).
Auckland adds its own wrinkles. Traffic can turn a 6 pm start into 7.30 if the crew is coming from the other side of the harbour bridge, so the schedule should allow for that. So should the access plan: alarm codes, key cards, who’s still in the building and who locks up. Sort that out at the start and you’ll dodge the “nobody could get in” phone call at 8 pm.
Hospitality is a different animal again. Cafés and restaurants have kitchens, floors and food-safety standards to keep up with, which is why cafe and restaurant cleaning is its own service on our list rather than something bundled in with offices.
A few things worth asking any commercial cleaner. Who supervises the crew? How are keys and alarm codes handled? Are consumables like toilet paper and hand soap included or billed separately? And what happens when something’s missed? Get the answers in writing, not in a phone call you’ll forget.
We look after offices and workplaces across Central, East, North Shore, South and West Auckland. Our commercial cleaning Auckland and office cleaning Auckland pages have the detail, and quotes are free.
Shopfronts are often done every couple of weeks, offices monthly or every second month, upper floors a few times a year. Auckland’s hard on glass. Salt in the air, traffic film, building dust, and rain that smears rather than rinses.
Safety matters too. WorkSafe says working at height is a leading cause of serious injury and death in New Zealand, there’s no minimum height where fall risk can be ignored, and a business can’t contract its duties away. So for anything above ground floor, ask how they’ll reach the glass and what their safety plan is. Poles from the ground usually beat ladders. Our window cleaning page covers what we do, and WorkSafe’s working at height guidance is worth a skim.
A good cleaner will put the job and the price on paper, carry insurance, and use vetted staff. They’ll also return to sort out anything that got missed. Then ask the awkward questions. Can I see what’s included in writing? Is the crew insured and background-checked? Who brings the gear?
Ours: police-checked, fully insured, we bring everything, and we send the same faces where we can. Read the three-star reviews first and see how the company replies. And be wary of a quote way below everyone else’s that won’t say what’s left out. We cover Central, East, the North Shore, South and West Auckland.
What does deep cleaning in Auckland cover?
Everything a regular visit skips: baked-on oven grease, soap scum, grimy grout, and the dust along skirting boards, door frames and window tracks. The kitchen takes most of the time. Bathrooms come next, because Auckland’s damp is hard on shower screens.
How is a deep clean different from a regular clean?
A regular clean stops grime building up, while a deep clean deals with what’s already there. Think of the deep clean as the fresh start and the regular visit as the upkeep.
How often do I need house cleaning services?
It depends who’s living there. A busy family in Botany will probably want someone through every week, but a couple in a one-bedroom Grey Lynn flat can usually get by with a monthly clean.
Do I need to be home, or supply anything?
No to both. Plenty of customers leave a spare key or a lockbox code, and we bring our own equipment and eco-friendly, biodegradable products, which helps if you’ve got kids or pets. Clear the benches and floors first so the time goes on cleaning, not picking up socks. Heavy furniture isn’t shifted on a standard clean, for safety reasons, so say so when you book if you’d like the floor done under the bed or the dining table.

How often should commercial window cleaning happen in Auckland?
Shopfronts are often done every couple of weeks, offices monthly or every second month, and upper floors a few times a year. Salt in the air, traffic film and building dust build up fast here, and rain tends to smear rather than rinse.
Is commercial window cleaning above ground floor safe?
It can be, if the company has a proper plan. WorkSafe says working at height is a leading cause of serious injury and death in New Zealand, and a business can’t contract its duties away. Ask how they’ll reach the glass and what their safety plan is. Poles from the ground usually beat ladders.
